Things On My Mind Lately

I never wear color in the Fall/Winter. My whole wardrobe goes into a gray scale. I been thinking about getting a red leather bracelet to offset it #IlluminatiCrazy

I love Winter accessories. I already have the 6ft scarf...I think its time to upgrade to the 8 ft-er.

Not on some fat shit! Lol I've been thinking about painting some cookies. The range of neutrals from beige to a burnt sienna in some places amaze me.

Dee and Ricky x Me

Soooo in my Color Theory class, we're working on color harmony by using a 12x12 grid. I got more leeway on the project since my teacher knows I'm a painter. This is what I have so far....

My initial inspiration was the Dee and Ricky Heart Brooch
Mine revolves around more warm colors that are harmonious. Hopefully I'll finish it soon...

A Few Things to Remember

1. Putting up with a bad situation does not insure that you will be reciprocated with something good.

2. No one puts you through anything. Its your choice to stick around

3. Don't sweat the small stuff. No matter how much it bothers you, there's always something bigger and better
    that you could be doing.

4. The more time you spend talking the less you spend listening.

5. ALWAYS be humble and loyal.

6. There isn't one person in the world that everyone loves.

7. Try to find beauty in everything. You will greater appreciate life.

8. If things aren't going your way, at least you're breathing.

9. Money isn't everything. Everything is everything.

10. Be true to self, not self-image.

A Long Time Coming

So I've had this cool painting cooped up in the back of my closet since 2008. Since I'm a starving artist now, why not finish it? Hopefully it'll be done and up for pricing in about a week.

A is for....

This is one of the most recent tattoo stencils I've finished. It was completed for a set of twins (Ashante and Ajia )whose names both start with "A". Doing something matching for people can be hard because you are faced with two different personalities which comes with different tastes.
I decided to keep it simple and incorporate the basic things that they have in common:
1. Starting letter of their name
2. Birthday
3. Astrology sign
They also requested the word "gemela" (Spanish for twin) to be incorporated.
With a composition like this I decided to keep it very flowing using the vines and tendrils so that everything will look harmonious. It puts a traditional art twist on the modern motifs that frequently being used today. What do you guys think?

FAQs About Commissions

Cash Rules Everything Around Me
                                                         Money Talks, Bullshit Walks
If It Don't Make Dollas Then It Don't Make Sense!

I always get the SAME messages asking about my art/pieces/services. So here goes nothing in hope of answering questions and eliminating repetition.

Q: Do you do tattoos?
A: No I do not tattoo........yet

Q: Can you draw my tattoo?
A : I will be more than happy to draw your tattoo as long as I am given some type of
guidance as to what you want

Q: Are you going to charge me?
A: YES I am going to charge you! You wouldn't ask a barber for a free haircut or a
photographer for a free photoshoot. This what I'm making into a CAREER.

Q: How much do you charge to draw a tattoo?
A: $15/hr. As I said,  I treat this like a job. I do good work therefore I charge hourly.
Since I treat this like a job, I DO NOT overcharge.
Ex. If it takes 2 hrs for me to draw something but you dont get it til 2 days later, it will  still be $30
It might seem pricey, however, it is a lot less than what you would have to pay for an
art deposit if you were going to a shop and requesting the artist to draw a personal piece.

Q: Do you sell your work?
A: Typical, no. I still need them for portfolio purposes but if there is something that you
like, we can discuss pricing a duplication.

Q: How can I hit you up about something I want?
A: Facebook message; preferably Twitter (www.twitter.com/phliwiddapencil) where can
exchange information and go from there.

Questions? Comments? Concerns? Shoot....

Wanna Read My Tattoos Like a MF-ing Story

I am a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge fan of body art. Aside from being a painter and graphic designer, my main career objective is to start tattooing as soon as I possibly can. Here's three of the eleven things that I have on me that I wanted to share

-Bon Art

P.S. I designed all my tats!

Inspirations I: People

Takashi Murakami
Words cannot explain the inspirational impact this man has had on me. My style of drawing is very clean cut and simple. I'm in an art rut that falls somewhere between graphic design and fine art. The work of Murakami pushes my 2D work to the level of what could possibly be the a new styling of pop art.

 Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol has always been an ultimate inspiration. From the moment I've seen his work when I was 10, I knew that was who I wanted to emulate. Art is not always landscapes or portraits. Warhol was my original inspiration for 2D work.

Georgia O'Keeffe
This woman is marvelous and iconic to saw the most while saying the least. I discovered O'Keeffe when I was 14. Her body of work had taught me about perspective, color, and the inner message of imagery that art has.

 A.M. Cassandre
You can't say "graphic design" without the highly influential work of A.M. Cassandre.
Cassandre's motifs were simple and geometric which was a trademark of his time. Cassandre has influenced through his work by the use of imagery in relation to text, composing them as collaborative piece rather than individual pieces.

 Herb Lubalin
I loooooooooooove font and imagery. Herb Lubalin gives me inspiration on the combination of both. More inspiring is his use of nudity in some pieces. Using nudity as the basis of his magazine Avant Garde, landed Lubalin in jail for advertising nudity.

Kanye West
Even though he isn't a fine artist, Kanye West is the reason why I have gotten through at least 70% of my pieces. Music is a big inspiration to an artist when working and when I'm working, Ye is with me! From signing with Roc-A-Fella when I was 12 to the College Dropout, Late Registration, the leak of Graduation and every featured song, this man has given me the lyrical influence I've needed to get through many pieces and deadlines over the years.

Last but CERTAINLY not least......
My Parents
My mother is pre-school teacher so she had so many things to use with me growing up. I went through so many of those sheets where you trace the letters that I think that's the reason why me detailing is so finely tuned. My dad was the artist before I took his spot :) Thanks for sitting me down and drawing all those cartoons characters with me every Saturday morning. Everything I get is going directly to them.

If you don't know, now you know....

Inspiration Prelude

As an artist, I am often searching for inspiration.

My friends would describe me as very detail oriented otherwise known as "weird". I'm the insane one that can see four different things in one stain on a carpet, can babble on what clouds look like, and what patterns remind me of.

We can find inspiration in various things. Due to my eclectic collection of pieces, people always ask me

"WHAT IS YOUR INSPIRATION?"

There is no shorthand answer to this question, but I can absolutely narrow it down to three things:
1. People
2. Time Periods
3.  Things
4. Culture
Ok Ok I lied its really four things but a list of three sounds so much better. I will be breaking down my inspirations in my next posts starting with People.

Allow Me To Reintroduce Myself....

Now that I've said "Hi" we are no longer strangers :). My art alias is PhliWiddaPencil (Fly With A Pencil) but I prefer going by Rene'. I am 20 years old and for 16 of those years, art has been my calling. Sometimes I answered and achieved amazing things, sometimes I told it I would call it back which cut out a lot of opportunities, and a lot of the times I pressed ignore in anticipation of a different calling.

Starting today, I'm answer that call and staying on the line until I reach fame.

As I start this journey, I am inviting everyone into my personal thoughts and feelings towards art as well as my inspirations and most importantly my works- past, present, and future.

Color me bad and I'll color your world......
